40,000 cigarettes have been seized at Dublin Airport today in baggage belonging to passengers who had arrived from Bulgaria.
It follows the discovery of 29,600 cigarettes at Rosslare Port yesterday.
Revenue officers at the port stopped and searched a Czech registered van which had disembarked a ferry from France, and the cigarettes were discovered hidden within a mattress.
The cigarettes seized as a result of both operations were of various brands and have a combined retail value of €49,000, representing a loss to the Exchequer of over €38,500.
Investigations into both seizures are continuing.
