21 More Coronavirus-Related Deaths And 390 New Cases In Republic

There have been 21 more coronavirus-related deaths in the Republic.

Latest figures from the Department of Health Show the total number of deaths here now stands at 158.

Meanwhile, 390 new cases have been confirmed today - meaning the nationwide total has now reached 4,994.

17 of the deaths reported today happened in the east of the country, while there were two in the south and two in the west.

The patients who died included nine females and 12 males, and 12 of the patients were reported as having had underlying health conditions.

The age of today’s reported deaths is 81 - the same as the overall median for deaths to date.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “This past week has proven that the nation is working hard, together, by staying at home to flatten the curve.

“If you develop symptoms of COVID-19 you need to self-isolate and phone your GP."

Earlier, officials in Northern Ireland confirmed seven more COVID-19 patients have died, bringing the death toll there to 63.
