More than a thousand extra beds have been sourced for the homeless population in Dublin city during the Covid-19 outbreak.
According to a report from Dublin City Council and the Dublin Region Homeless Executive, updating city councillors, 670 of the beds are for cocooning and isolation purposes.
While the rest have been added to the system in order to facilitate social distancing and to cut the number of people staying in larger hostels in the city.
The additional capacity includes 400 bedrooms in eight hotels, 165 self-contained apartments and 470 single occupancy beds in hostels.
Homeless families
While there are plans to move families from hotels to self-contained accommodation.
A hundred apartments are due to be secured over the next four weeks.
"The cost of these apartments will be significantly cheaper than the equivalent hotel accommodation and obviously a much more suitable living environment for the families involved" according to the report.
