The Restaurants Association says one in four businesses won't reopen for indoor dining tomorrow.

The Government is expected today to sign off on guidelines for indoor service.

Customers will need to show proof of immunity against Covid-19, by being fully vaccinated or recovered from the virus.

There will be a limit of six adults per table, children will be allowed indoors but premises must close by 11.30pm.

Philip Foster, owner of The Snail Box restaurant and pub in Ashbourne, Co Meath, says the regulations for indoor dining are "unworkable"

"How do you police it? I thinks it's very hard," said Foster. "You need extra staff which we wouldn't have anyway, our key personnel would then be on doors."

Other publicans and restaurateurs say they're concerned about possible backlash from the public when indoor hospitality re-opens tomorrow.

Padraig Cribben from the Vintners' Federation is appealing to the public to follow the rules tomorrow:

"We've seen that already with outdoor drinking and dining where there are people who don't want to wear masks where there are people who want to create issues.

"We would ask the public to make life as easy as possible for those who are trying to get back into business again."
