A group of volunteers are holding their annual 5k walk for Pieta House in Naas on 12th May, at the Phoenix Park in Dublin and at various other locations around the country. This year they’re looking to raise funds to open a suicide and self-harm service in Kildare.
Anyone can take part and make whatever donation they can afford but it’ll be an early start taking off in the early hours of the morning and walking ‘into the dawn’. The walk is called ‘Darkness Into Light’ which encapsulates the message of Pieta House and what they do.
98FM’s Head of News, journalist and author Teena Gates is also taking part, and is encouraging anyone who is nervous about joining in the walk, to meet up with her at the Phoenix Park registration, and join with her in a ‘race to be last’ past the finish. Teena lost 12 stone in just over a year and trekked to Everest Base Camp for charity, so she understands what it’s like to be nervous about joining in an official walk, but she’s encouraging people to get active and help a great cause at the same time. Volunteers are also needed to help make tea/coffee for the walkers on their return.
